At Butler, providing an exceptional student-centered learning experience is at the heart of everything we do. We are passionate about the transformative impact we make in students’ lives and are driven to make this experience available to all who seek it.
Because many of our students are only able to consider Butler as a viable option with the help of Butler-funded academic and need-based scholarships, Butler offers the best possible financial aid package upfront. Unfortunately, the ever-growing total of scholarship funding required to meet our students’ needs is not sustainable. During the 2022-23 academic year, Butler committed more than $95 million to students in the form of scholarships and financial aid. Currently, 99% of students receive financial aid.
We are committed to ensuring that a Butler education remains accessible to every deserving student, regardless of financial circumstance. But to make this vision sustainable, Butler students need your support.

Art Levin Journalism Scholarship for the First Amendment
Established in honor of Art Levin, by family, former students, colleagues and other friends, this scholarship provides financial assistance to students who are enrolled in the College of Communication as journalism majors and dedicated to the preservation of First Amendment liberties as demonstrated either through coursework, or by work on the editorial staffs of student-run print or electronic publications.
Bud Kerwin Endowed Dance Scholarship
The Bud Kerwin Endowed Dance Scholarship was established in 2019 in honor of Bud Kerwin, a beloved former faculty member in the department of dance. The scholarship supports students majoring in dance.
David H. & Virginia M. Waite Scholarship
Established in 1994, by friends, former students and colleagues to honor both David H. and Virginia M. Waite. This scholarship provides financial support to communication studies students who are selected on the basis of professional goals, academic achievement and personal characteristics, with the objective of providing awards to applicants who have independent spirits and demonstrate outstanding potential to be effective communicators.
Endowed Fund for Student Scholarship Challenge
Support the Trombley Family Endowed Scholarship on the Day of Giving! Gifts to the scholarship will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $10,000, thanks to donations from members of the Trombley family. Established in memoriam of the late Rod Trombley (father to Butler alumnus and faculty member Dr. Mike Trombley), who was dedicated to serving underprivileged and disadvantaged youth, this scholarship will be prioritized to students based on financial need. Hochman Ligon Scholarship
Longtime beloved faculty member Dr. Hochman retired in 2022 after 33 years of service to the College of Education at Butler University. Help us honor his legacy by supporting this scholarship that will be awarded to a multicultural student studying Education.
James R. Phillippe Scholarship in Media Arts
Created in memory of the late Jim Phillippe, a gifted teacher who inspired scores of students and a highly regarded member of the Butler faculty from 1946-1986, this scholarship supports students enrolled in the Eugene S. Pulliam School of Journalism and Creative Media.
LGBT Alumni Association Promotion of Diversity Scholarship Challenge
Join the LGBT Alumni Association in support of the Promotion of Diversity Scholarship. 15 gifts to this challenge will unlock $2,500 towards the LGBT Alumni Association Promotion of Diversity Scholarship. This scholarship provides financial aid to students who promote diversity and have distinguished themselves as effective advocates for LGBT students at Butler University.
Patrick and Rita Murphy Scholarship
You can support COPHS students by making a gift to the Pat & Rita Murphy Endowed Scholarship Fund. This scholarship provides support to students enrolled in the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. 50 gifts to this challenge will unlock $7,000 for the Pat & Rita Murphy Endowed Scholarship Fund.
Samuel A. Wilson Scholarship Challenge
Join with the faculty and staff of Chemistry and Biology to unlock study abroad opportunities for Butler STEM students with a gift to the Samuel A. Wilson Scholarship Challenge! On Day of Giving, 50 gifts will unlock an additional $2,500 to the Samuel A. Wilson Fund for STEM Study Abroad. Gifts to this fund will help provide STEM students a discipline-focused international experience.
Semester in Spain Scholarship Challenge
Help unlock $10,000 by making a gift to the Florence Jessup Memorial Study Abroad Fund! Established in memory of Dr. Florence Redding Jessup the fund provides scholarships to students participating in the Butler Semester in Spain study abroad program. 25 gifts will unlock $10,000 in scholarship funds for deserving students as they take on the adventure of international travel. Susan Zurbuchen Endowed Arts Administration Scholarship
Susan Zurbuchen served the Jordan College of the Arts with distinction as an Associate Professor and Department Chair of Arts Administration for more than 30 years, creating one of the first and most comprehensive Arts Administration undergraduate programs in the country This scholarship provides support to rising juniors who have declared an Arts Administration major with a minimum GPA of 3.0 with preference given to students with greatest financial need.
