Alumni Engagement

Butler Communities

Butler Communities provide opportunities for Butler alumni, parents, family, and friends to stay involved with Butler, no matter where they live. Butler Communities are groups of alumni, supporters, and friends linked by a common experience such as a geographic area or special interest and serve as extensions of the Butler University Alumni Association. In addition to serving the Alumni Association’s mission, communities work in partnership with the Office of Alumni Relations & Engagement staff to provide opportunities for Butler alumni, parents, family, and friends to stay engaged in meaningful ways that benefit the overall mission of the University.

The Butler Giving Circle

The Butler Giving Circle is a community of alumni donors dedicated to supporting two mission-critical elements of Butler University’s vision for the future: student scholarship and Indianapolis community partnerships. Read more on how your $500 gift can connect you with Butler students and help them engage with causes they are passionate about. The more alumni who join, the greater impact we can have on campus and beyond! If you have additional questions please contact Chelsea Smock at csmock@butler.edu and check out the Giving Circle FAQ

Featured Alumni Initiatives

BUAA Ayres Student Assistance Fund Challenge

Join the Butler University Alumni Association as they work to raise funds and awareness for the Ayres Student Assistance Fund. The Ayres Student Assistance Fund helps students whose financial need increases due to a change in their financial circumstances which could prevent them from completing their education at Butler University (i.e. parent/personal job loss, disability, etc.). Supporting the Ayres fund provides financial resources to students at-risk of not being able to graduate into the alumni family. The BU Alumni Association board of directors will match gifts, dollar for dollar up to $8,000.

Melissa Smurdon, Director of Financial Aid has shared this thought. “I have worked in the Butler Office of Financial Aid for 28 years. The Ayres Student Assistance Fund is one of the most impactful aid programs we have to target support to students exactly where needed.  For a student who has already invested significantly in a Butler education, a small Butler investment in turn pays huge dividends over a lifetime for that student and the Butler community.”

Central Indiana Tuition Guarantee Challenge
Former leaders of the Butler Central Indiana Community and their families, Branden ’02 and Jenn Renner and Christina ’04 and Craig Fugate, MS ’17, are coming together to support the Butler Tuition Guarantee Program. Gifts received to the Tuition Guarantee Program will be matched dollar for dollar until our $2,500 goal is reached.

The Butler Tuition Guarantee Program offers up to 10 full-tuition awards to students graduating from a Marion County high school who demonstrate financial need, have a solid academic record, and demonstrate participation in high school extracurricular activities and community service projects.

MBA Scholarship Challenge
Support Butler MBA students by making a gift to the Weedon Scholarship Fund. The MBA Alumni Community Steering Committee is matching all gifts to the Weedon Fund, up to $3,500, for Day of Giving - doubling your impact! Make your gift today to help deserving MBA students receive the support they need to achieve their goals.

"The Weedon Scholarship was immensely helpful toward the completion of my MBA at Butler. I was faced with the prospect of putting my MBA plans on hold without some financial assistance. While working full-time and going to evening and weekend courses was challenging, the generosity of donors ensured that I could continue pursuing my MBA at Butler." - David Watkins, MBA

Chicago Trek Challenge
Current and former leaders of the Chicago Community Kyle Delaney '03, Brent Sever '11, and Kevin Waldrop '07 are sponsoring this challenge for the Chicago Trek. The Chicago Trek is a new opportunity for students to network with Butler alumni and employers. The goal of the program is to introduce students to Chicago and the benefits of living and working in one of the country’s most bustling environments all while showcasing students to internship and career opportunities within the city. 180 gifts from Chicago-area alumni to anywhere in the University on Day of Giving will unlock $1,850 for the Chicago Trek.

Young Alumni Board Challenge
The Young Alumni Board is encouraging our fellow Bulldogs to support Butler on the 6th Annual Day of Giving! Our goal is for 100 young alumni to make a gift on the day to join the President's Club at their graduating class' specific level or make a gift of any amount they can. We are proud to have this challenge, in addition to our annual contributions, to further support of the Butler Fund for Student Scholarship!
