College of Education
Catalysts for the Future

At Butler University’s College of Education, we understand that no other profession in the world exists or advances without great educators. The next generation of leaders in every industry are sitting in P-12 classrooms all over the world today. They deserve passionate and well-trained educators to challenge, encourage and teach them. The College of Education believes we must prepare our students for schools and communities as they could be, not simply perpetuating them as they currently exist. We must be willing to explore with our students the difficult issues of inequities that exist in our schools and society and prepare our students to become agents of change.

In order to prepare our students, we begin their field experiences during their very first year at Butler through our unique partnerships with local schools. College of Education students are involved in undergraduate research alongside our faculty, who are experts in the art and science of pedagogy. Through this research and field experience, our students learn how to adjust their teaching to an ever-changing environment, relying on proven methods while exploring new techniques.

Today’s educators are required to be adept at recognizing the individual needs of their students. Families and communities are increasingly relying on educators to identify children facing social, emotional and mental health challenges. This requires a high level of preparation and training. Through our rigorous academic program, College of Education graduates are prepared not just to succeed but to thrive as educators, counselors, and mentors in schools, museums, hospitals, and other youth-centered organizations. In fact, the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (AACTE) recognized Butler University as a “model of excellence in clinical preparation for teacher education.” Our graduates are employed in over 100 schools locally, 11 states nationally, and five countries internationally, positively impacting children, schools, and communities around the world.

In order to continue preparing our students for the classrooms of the future, we need your help. An investment in the College of Education is an investment in the ongoing development of excellent educators for every community.
