College of Communication
Connect with the World

In the Butler College of Communication (CCOM), students delve into the intricacies of meaningful dialogue, social responsibility, leadership, and ethics, with access to practical experience using the industry’s best technology and facilities. The college’s coursework is both theoretical and applied, providing the conceptual grounding for lifelong learning and career flexibility. On average, 97 percent of CCOM students are employed or accepted to graduate school within six months of graduation.

Our classes are led by passionate and dedicated professors, scholars, and practitioners, who are involved in their professional community. This involvement keeps the subject matters they teach relevant and engaging.

College of Communication students have many avenues for applying what's learned in the classroom. The College provides practical experience through many student-run media outlets. These include the award-winning weekly newspaper The Butler Collegian, the video production company Indy Blue Video and online shows from Butler360Sports.com as well as live sportscasts on butlersports.com.

In addition, the College of Communication supports the Butler Speech-Language Clinic, Audiology Lab, the Speech Research Laboratory and the Butler Early Language and Literacy Preschool Program (BELL). The Butler Speech-Language Clinic has given language therapy to 300 adults and children over the past decade, and the Butler Aphasia Community services 30 adults a year.
